A builder was once offered a cuppa from the Queen herself – but was completely clueless it was her to begin with.
Kevin Andrews, a royal upholsterer who worked for the the late Queen Mother, tells the story in Secrets of the Royal Palaces, a Channel 5 documentary, according to Bustle.
It says, according to the Daily Mail, that a “builder was dismantling a desk […] so he could not see who was making the offer when the lady’s voice asked him if he would like a cup of tea.”
He is said to have replied: “Yeah. In a mug. Two sugars. Builder’s tea. I don’t want any of that nonsense I had the last time I was here, all that fine china and all that saucer stuff.”
And it was only when the Queen returned and told him it was on the table that he realised and saw “the Queen leaving the room”.
