M&S shoppers blast new limited edition Colin the Caterpillar cake

Oh crumbs! Marks & Spencer shoppers have slammed a new version of its Colin the Caterpillar cake.

The high street favourite has released a Father’s Day edition of the cake – much like it did on Mother’s Day back in April.

But instead of a full-size offering, the dessert is only half a cake – meaning smaller slices or lesser servings for the family.

The chocolate cake sees Colin dressed up as a superhero, complete with a blue cape and a mask.

M&S took to social media to unveil its new design, Birmingham Live reports.

The post reads: “Meet My Hero Colin!

“This NEW limited-edition, ‘super’ giftable half-size version of our much-loved Colin cake has been created especially for Father’s Day, complete with an edible cape! You can even cut your own personal hero a mask from the box. In store now”.

However, it seems that some people are not happy with the choice claiming they want a full-size Colin instead of half-a-size.

One person said: “Half size?! We want full size!”

And another said: “Does it cost half the price though?”

Others also mocked Aldi and M&S for a previous clash between the two supermarkets over the naming of their caterpillar cakes.

M&S took Aldi to court over Aldi’s Cuthbert cake claiming it was infringing on its Colin the Caterpillar trademark, forcing Aldi to stop selling the cake.

One person said: “Cannot wait to see Aldi’s superhero” and another added: “Still not as good as Cuthbert!”

This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 20. You can check out the new cake here.
