Richard Madeley has been likened to Alan Partridge after making a comment comparing Shamima Begum to Hitler Youth.
Viewers of Good Morning Britain compared the comments Richard made on this morning’s show to satirical talk show host character Alan Partridge, with some convinced that Steve Coogan is behind the GMB host’s chaotic moments.
The presenter and co-hot Susanna Reid had just finished hosting a debate on whether Ms Begum should be allowed to return to the UK after she travelled to Syria to join ISIS in February 2015 at the age of 15.
Richard began: “It’s quite an interesting point, and I was thinking about this last night.
“Obviously, we had the Nuremberg trials after the war and we hanged quite a few Nazis and imprisoned a lot of others and we let them out eventually. But we didn’t go after the Hitler Youth as far as I’m aware. We didn’t go after the Hitler Youth, we only went after adults who served in the Hitler regime and that’s something to reflect on, I think.”
His comment left his co-host Susanna speechless, before he then stressed he does not know where he stands with Ms Begum’s dilemma.
Hitler Youth was an organisation set up by the Nazis in 1933 for educating and training young men in Nazi principles.
Viewers could not help but mock the comment, comparing Richard to Alan Partridge.
One person said: “And then Richard Madeley goes full Partridge once again.”
Radio 1 presenter Greg James said: “Holy sh*t. Beyond Partridge. I’m convinced Rob Gibbons and Neil Gibbons are now actually writing for Madeley.”
The clip has gone viral on Twitter with many people commenting on the comparison.
Someone said: “Honestly, it is genius. There’s no way Richard Madeley isn’t a character.”
Another added: “There is so much crossover between Richard Madeley and Alan Partridge that you forget who said what.”
Another viewer said: “From Mansfield hillibilies to Shamima Begum in the space of two minutes. And then Richard Madeley goes full Partridge once again.”
