Holidaymaker reveals secret to loving Hull’s ‘worst hotel ever’

A holidaymaker loved her stay in Hull’s “worst hotel ever” by making a simple request.

Amy B from Birmingham recently stayed at the Gilson Hotel in Anlaby Road from August 22 to 25.

The hotel has an average rating of three stars, with several reviews commenting on how loud the hotel gets at night due to the nearby pubs and clubs.

One scathing reviewer even labelled it the “worst hotel ever”.

Posting her own review, Amy said she was concerned about the noise levels after seeing the negative reviews, so she called ahead to request a room at the back of the hotel.

She said: “I was nervous after reading other reviews about people being unable to sleep. I messaged the hotel on Facebook to see if they could give us rooms at the back of the hotel as it is quieter at the back than at the front.

“They messaged back immediately and upon arrival, they had met our request. I was upgraded from a double to a junior suite and it was lovely.

“The bed was either queen or king, I’m not sure. However, it was lovely and luxurious for just myself.

“I am used to sleeping in a single, so a massive upgrade for me. The bed was very comfortable and slept very well.

“This is coming from someone who is a very light sleeper, struggles to sleep and wakes up multiple times each night. I woke up feeling refreshed everyday.

“Would I stay here again? Definitely! The hotel was lovely and was very conveniently placed. Ask for a room on the back and you’ll be fine.”

She added that upgraded junior suites had jacuzzi style baths and power showers which had a touch of luxury for a very affordable price.

The late 11am checkout time also meant she could have a lie-in in the morning.
