Legendary Sir Tom Jones gives Hull a night to remember forever

Legendary singer Sir Tom Jones gave the people of Hull a night to remember forever when he performed to a huge crowd at Hull College Craven Park on Saturday night.

The 81-year-old Welsh superstar took to the stage to belt out his classics, as well as his new hits, to the Hull crowd at the home of Hull Kingston Rovers.

Earlier this year his 41st studio album, Surrounded by Time, was released and last night fans got to hear some of the new tracks live.

His star studded line up of support acts last night included Chris Simmons, Leeds-based band The Dunwells and Megan McKenna, who has previously appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and The Only Way is Essex.

Fans who attended the gig have taken to social media to express their delight after watching Sir Tom’s performance.

One Facebook user said: “He’s definitely still got it Sir Tom was amazing his voice is fantastic.”

A second commented: “Absolutely brilliant we had a blast!! What a voice. Thank you for the memories Sir Tom.”

Another left a stellar review of his show: “I went to see Sir Tom Jones at Craven Park last night and I must say…what a captivating performance. A true living legend.

“The evening began with a solo warm up from Chris Simmons who did a great job. After Chris Simmons came the Dunwells (a brother duo from Leeds), they were really good. And finally in support was Megan McKenna who again was very entertaining.

“Sir Tom Jones you absolutely smashed it. You have to take your hat off (or you can leave your hat on) to him. At 81 years of age he showed he is still at the top of his game and a consummate professional.

“With a mixture of hits spanning 56+ years Sir Tom had the audience in the palm of his hand throughout his 90 minute set. A night to remember that’s for sure.”

Other compliments to Sir Tom included: “Sir Tom was outstanding. The power and strength in his voice was unbelievable for a fella in his 80s.”

The Voice judge, who has more than 100 million record sales under his belt, left a huge impression on fans in last night’s show, which had to be rescheduled from June 12 because of the pandemic.

Tom’s extraordinary 50-plus year career has seen him earn a string of prestigious music awards and was recognised in 2006 through his knighthood from the Queen.
