Aldi launches £70 gadget to revolutionise playing fetch with your dog

Aldi has launched a £70 gadget to revolutionise playing fetch with your dog – and some owners are going so far as to train their dogs how to reload it themselves so they can play on their own.

The Outpaws Maxi Automatic Ball Launcher throws tennis balls in the air for dogs to fetch, while a button on the front of the device allows owners to decide how far to throw with options of 3 metres, 7.5 metres or 12 metres.

The rechargable machine comes with three tennis balls in the box so your pet can get started straight away, but it will work with any other standard 6.5cm diameter replacements – just in case any of the balls go astray.

Shoppers have been snapping up the machine since its launch and reviewers have reacted largely positively to it. Several reviewers have discussed training their dogs to reload the balls into the machine, with Ian from Norfolk commenting: “Had this two weeks and it’s working well. Dog can now put the ball in and play. Love it.”

The gadget is part of Aldi’s latest pet event, which launches in stores on Thursday but is available to order online now, and also includes dog beds in a range of sizes from £8.99, memory foam mattresses from £12.99 and towelling dog coats from £6.99.

The ball launcher is an online only product and the latest example of the budget supermarket’s so-called SpecialBuys – limited time web exclusive deals for toys, gadgets and homewares beloved of bargain hunters everywhere. Popular on money saving websites as a way to get premium looking products but at bargain prices, this £90 heated clothes airer and £80 wooden toy kitchen have also both been recent best sellers.
