Line of Duty star Vicky McClure is joining forces with former co-star Johnny Harris in a new ITV show, Without Sin.
The four-part psychological thriller will explore the relationship which develops between a grieving mother and the man she believes murdered her daughter.
Vicky McClure – known for her roles as DI Kate Fleming in Line of Duty and Lol in This is England – will be taking on the lead role of Stella Tomlinson, whose 14-year-old daughter is found dead at their home with the hooded figure of Charles Stone standing over her.
Actor Johnny Harris – and Vicky’s former co-star in This is England – will star as Charles.
The 38-year-old award-winning actress has recently finished filming on Trigger Point, another ITV drama set to air in 2022.
Without Sin will be filmed in Nottingham and produced by The Crown producers, Left Bank Pictures and co-produced by Vicky and her fiancée Jonny Owen’s production company, Build Your Own Films.
Nottingham-born Vicky has said filming in her hometown is “a dream come true”.
She added: “We are absolutely delighted that a hugely successful company such as Left Bank Pictures wanted to work with us, sharing the same beliefs with BYO’s vision to create equality of opportunity.
“I am also thrilled to be working once again with my good friend, and one of the UK’s finest actors, Johnny Harris, along with members of Nottingham’s The Television Workshop.”
The series was specially created for Vicky and Johnny by Nottingham-born Frances Poletti.
The drama will pick up three years after the horrific event. The synopsis reads: “When contacted by Restorative Justice, and in an attempt to move on, Stella and Paul reunite to listen to a taped recording of Charles, who they believe wants to atone for his sins and apologise for murdering their daughter.
“Stella agrees to visit the prison alongside a Restorative Justice Mediator and comes face to face with her daughter’s killer. But nothing could prepare her for what Charles has to say next…”
Commissioner of Without Sin, Polly Hill, ITV’s Head of Drama said: “Without Sin is a brilliantly compelling story while carefully dealing with a mother’s grief at the loss of her daughter.
“It’s hard to believe this is Frances’ first drama series commission. Vicky and Johnny as Stella and Charles will be addictive viewing.”
Andy Harries, Chief Executive Officer, Left Bank Pictures added: “It’s a privilege to be working with Vicky and Johnny and to be able to reunite them in a very strong story set in Vicky’s home town of Nottingham, and written by local writer Fran. It’s a proper Nottingham talent fest.”
Without Sin will be filmed in Nottingham and Shrewsbury during this autumn and is likely to air in 2022.
