Filming has begun on new series of ITV detective drama, McDonald & Dodds

Filming has commenced on the third instalment of popular ITV detective series, McDonald & Dodds.

The drama first hit our screens in March 2020 with Tala Gouveia, known for her role in Cold Feet, playing DCI Lauren McDonald and Jason Watkins, who recently won a BAFTA for his part in The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries, playing DS Dodds.

With both episodes of the show’s first series having accumulated over 6.5 million views each, a second series was quickly commissioned and was aired in February this year.

According to a statement released today by ITV, the initial filming for a third series of McDonald & Dodds, which was commissioned for ITV by Polly Hill and Huw Kennair Jones, is currently underway.

Amongst the many newbies that will be joining the beloved duo for the latest series is Claire Skinner, who is best known for the role as Sue Brockman in BBC’s ‘Outnumbered’. She is set to play the role of Chief Superintendent Ormond.

Speaking about her role in the new series, Claire Skinner, said: “I’m a huge fan of McDonald & Dodds so I’m delighted to be joining the cast as Chief Superintendent Ormond.

“Ormond is a quietly intimidating character so she’ll be keeping McDonald & Dodds on their toes throughout this new series.”

Guests stars for the first film include British television icons such as Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek), Holly Aired (Waking The Dead), Catherine Tyldesley (Coronation Street) and Dame Sian Phillips (I, Claudius). Danyal Ismail will also be joining the cast as DC Martin Malik.

These stars will be joining McDonald & Dodds regular Lily Sacofsky, who will reprise her role as DC Milena Paciorkowski.

According to ITV’s latest statement, the first film, which was written by executive producer, Robert Murphy, will see the detective duo investigating the mysterious death of Belvedere, a young woman found sitting in a deckchair in broad daylight in one of Bath’s most populated parks with a smile on her face.

Robert Murphy, who is also the creator of the show, has written the fourth film of the series. Robert Drummond composed film two whilst Kam Odera has written the plot for film three.

McDonald & Dodds is produced by leading independent production company Mammoth Screen, co-produced by BritBox North America.

The first and second series are available to view via streaming platform Britbox.
