Trailer released teasing second Alex Rider series on Amazon Prime

Spy drama Alex Rider will return for a second series this December, it has been revealed.

Season two will be released on the streaming platform Amazon Prime on December 3.

The show puts a modern twist on the original books, which are based around London-based teenager, Alex, who has unknowingly been trained since childhood for the dangerous world of espionage.

A star-studded cast featured in series one, including Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure as Mrs Jones, Stephen Dillane – who recently stared in BBC One’s Vigil – as Alan Blunt and Game of Throne’s Brenock O’Connor as Tom Harris, will all be reprising their roles for series two.

There will be a new addition to the cast this series in the form of Toby Stephens playing Damian Cray.

Otto Farrant – who plays Alex Rider – was spotted with crew from the show filming in Cardiff earlier this year.

The series is based on the popular book franchise – which has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide – written by Anthony Horowitz.

Author Anthony Horowitz, is also an executive producer for the Alex Rider production.

On the reveal of the launch date for series two, he said: “After the success of Season One, I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to reassemble our fantastic cast for this second, action-packed adventure…with the added bonus of Toby Stephens in a key role.”

The new season will be based off the fourth book Eagle Strike.

IMDb have revealed the synopsis for series two: “Alex is still reeling from the traumatic events at Point Blanc, and desperately wants to return to a normal life.

“But when his new friend Sabina’s father, journalist Ed Pleasance, is attacked by Yassen Gregorovich, the man who may have killed his uncle, Alex reluctantly finds himself drawn back into the world of international espionage.

“Cut loose from his one-time allies within shadowy MI6 division The Department, Alex discovers a link between Ed, a dangerous hacker known as Smoking Mirror, and tech billionaire Damian Cray.

“With the help of his guardian Jack and trusted friend Tom, Alex must unravel a sinister political plot with global repercussions, the answer to which may be locked within Cray’s latest product, the global phenomenon video game Feathered Serpent.”

Alex Rider will be released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday December 3.
