Create fabulous Christmas cocktail creations inspired by gin and rum experts

Cocktails are a festive party favourite and hosts don’t need to be an expert mixologist to shake and stir their guests with some exotic recipes.

Specialist distillers Didsbury Gin has conjured up a magical mix of cocktail creations – including last-minute mulled wine, a Cranberry Chrimbo cocktail and the Festive Dark and Stormy – which are sure to warm any winter evening.

Some of the drinks use Didsbury Gin’s brand-new Christmas Pudding Liqueur, while the outfit’s ARLU Rums are key ingredients in other tipples.

The creations are the brainchild of Didsbury Gin founders Mark Smallwood and Liam Manton and their team at the Manchester-based distillers. Here are some of the recipes:

Last Minute mulled wine

Product to use: ARLU Blood Orange Rum or ARLU Original Spiced Rum

Instructions:

  • Add all ingredients to a saucepan. Cook over low heat until warm, remove from heat and let stand for 5-10 minutes. Serve in mugs or punch cups.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Bottle fruity red wine, 60ml Rum, 2 star anise pods, 1 long strip of lemon or orange peel, 1 tsp sugar, Cinnamon sticks for garnish.

Blood Orange Christmas Fizz

Product to use: ARLU Blood Orange Rum

Instructions:

  • Grate fresh ginger, muddle with lime juice and honey in a shaker. Shake with rum, cranberry juice and ginger beer. Strain into coupe or flute and top up with prosecco. Dust with nutmeg and enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml rum, 40ml ginger beer, 20ml cranberry juice, 15ml lime juice, 10g ginger, 5ml honey, Prosecco – to top up, grated nutmeg for garnish

Cranberry Chrimbo cocktail

Product to use: Didsbury Original Gin

Instructions:

  • Fill tumbler glass with ice cubes and add the gin and lemon juice. Top with the cranberry juice and stir. Adjust to taste. Garnish with cranberries and mint leaves.

Ingredients:

  • 1 or 2 measures gin, 150ml cranberry juice, 10ml lemon juice, fresh cranberries, mint leaves

Festive Dark and Stormy

Product to use: ARLU Passion Fruit and Mango Rum

Instructions:

  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake gently and pour into two separate glasses over ice

Ingredients:

  • 80ml rum, 80ml cranberry juice, 120ml ginger beer, 20ml cinnamon syrup OR 10ml maple syrup and 3 pinches of cinnamon, 20ml fresh lime juice, lime wedges + cranberries and cinnamon sticks to decorate.

Mulled Christmas Gin

Product to use: Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur

Instructions:

  • Add the juices and jelly to a pan, then heat gently for a few minutes, until the jelly has dissolved. Remove from the heat, strain into a glass, then top up with Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur. Garnish with a slice of orange and/or a few fresh cranberries; you can also pop a fresh star anise or cinnamon stick in, for added flavour.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur, 150ml apple juice, 50-100ml freshly squeezed orange juice, to taste, 1 tsp cranberry jelly (optional), Cinnamon stick, Orange slices and/or fresh cranberries, to garnish.

Festive Espresso Martini

Product to use: Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur

Instructions:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add the espresso, gingerbread syrup and Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur. Shake well to chill and create that signature froth. Then, strain into a coupe glass. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon or nutmeg, then serve.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur, 25ml espresso, 10ml gingerbread syrup, Sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg

Sparkling Christmas Pudding Cocktail

Product to use: Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur

Instructions:

  • To a cocktail shaker or jug filled with ice, add Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur and clementine juice. Stir to combine and chill. Strain into a chilled champagne flute and garnish with a clementine peel twist.

25/50ml Didsbury Gin Christmas Pudding Liqueur, 2tbsp clementine juice, Prosecco (to top up), Garnish: Clementine peel twist.
