Festive high teas and Christmas lunches at Michelin restaurants

Meals don’t come more special than Christmas dinner.

As numerous restaurants release their festive menus in November, Christmas might be the only time of year where indulging in decadent food for a full month is not only encouraged but wholeheartedly embraced.

If you love Christmas food and can’t cook or won’t cook, you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of restaurants across the UK that are offering Christmas dinner.

Here’s our round-up of what celeb chefs or posh restaurants will be serving up for Christmas.

Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay in Knightsbridge, London

Christmas Day menu is £275 per person.

The restaurant’s warm welcome note on the website says: “Top your Christmas celebrations with a Michelin star and join us in Knightsbridge for an elegant dining experience at Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay.”

Expect dishes such as confit egg with caviar, lobster ravioli with truffle, Dover sole and Cumbrian venison. Desserts sound divine too, where you can tuck into clementine sorbet or hazelnut soufflé with salted caramel ice cream.

Rick Stein at Marlborough, Winchester, Sandbanks, Barnes-London

Although Rick Stein’s restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, they have a festive menu running from 26th November – 2nd January.

The festive lunch menu is £31 for 3 courses, festive dinner menu is £35 for 3 courses including a festive Campari Fizz cocktail.

Celebrity chef Rick Stein is a regular on TV where he can be seen cooking fish-centric cuisine. This means fans of Rick can enjoy a range of fish dishes that feature alongside meat and vegetarian dishes on the festive menu.

Dishes to tuck into include smoked salmon with horseradish cream, fish and shellfish soup with rouille, grilled miso salmon, duck cottage pie, boozy Christmas pudding with Cornish clotted cream and Rick Stein’s new tiramisu recipe from his recently published book, Rick Stein at Home.

Rogan & Co., Cartmel

Simon & Tom’s Great British Christmas menu is £95 per person.

Although the restaurant is closed on Christmas Day, Simon Rogan and Executive Chef Tom Barnes will be serving Christmas-themed dishes from 1st – 13th December to celebrate the festive season.

The menu titled ‘Simon & Tom’s Great British Christmas’ will be served at Simon’s one Michelin star restaurant Rogan & Co for a fortnight of festive feasting.

Humorously titled dishes to be served include ‘Shrimply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time’ which is a tartlet of Dublin bay shrimp, ‘Bob Crachit’s Christmas Lunch’ which is roast goose and ‘Snowtorious S.T.P’, which is a date and caramel dessert.

The menu also includes ‘‘Salmon Smoked Over Pine’ which was Tom Barnes’ fish course that earned a place in the final banquet at the Great British Menu.

Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, London

Christmas Day Lunch is £325, Christmas Day Dinner is £225.

This three Michelin starred restaurant serves dishes made with seasonal produce sourced from farmers and growers carefully chosen by Hélène.

The website says: “Every menu is a reflection of your personal tastes, as our chefs transform selected ingredients into original works of culinary art.”

A selection of dishes from the sample festive menus include caviar with oyster, scallop with black truffle, turbot with leek and seaweed and dessert of Manjari chocolate with speculoos.

Ronnie Scott’s London

3 course Christmas lunch is £75 per person (includes Prosecco and live music show).

One of the world’s most famous jazz clubs is a surprising setting to eat Christmas lunch.

Famous for its iconic jazz nights, Ronnie Scott’s sell-out Christmas lunches make a welcome return. This one’s a double whammy treat featuring good food and live music.

Diners can enjoy a traditional Christmas roast whilst listening to Ronnie Scott’s All Stars House Band.

Dishes to enjoy include smoked salmon with capers, roast Suffolk turkey with traditional trimmings, roast pork loin, wild mushroom tart, lemon and mandarin cheesecake tart and Christmas pudding with brandy cream.

Australasia, Manchester

A 3-course menu is £35, a 4-course menu is £49.50 per person.

Although Australasia is closed on Christmas Day there are festive menus available from 27th November – 30 December.

Tucked away in the heart of Manchester is this stylish, subterranean venue serving modern Australian food with Indonesian and Japanese influences.

The website says: “Your haven of laid-back luxe awaits…” giving you an idea of what to expect from this celebrity hot-spot.

Expect to tuck into tantalising sushi and robata-style dishes. These include edamame beans with chili oil and truffle, seared venison nigiri with artichoke, miso marinated cod, Red Dragon beef skewer with Thai basil and blood orange mulled sake trifle.

Grand Pacific, Leeds and Manchester

A Festive High Tea is from £23 and a 3 course Christmas roast is £24.95 per person.

Both Grand Pacific restaurants are closed on Christmas Day but their festive offerings include Festive High Tea and Christmas roasts.

Enter the palatial dining hall and dine like royalty in this positively regal venue. The website says: “Welcome to a Grand Pacific Christmas; a sumptuous two- or three-course festive menu… Chatter and laughter rumble all around, whilst servers glide from place to place with trays of tantalising delights and the smell of exotic spices fills the air… this year sophisticated celebration awaits.”

The atmospheric scene is set, so what can you expect at Grand Pacific?

Steamed duck dim sum, leaf-baked Malaysian salmon, chargrilled 28 day aged sirloin of beef and butterscotch miso chocolate mousse are just a few dishes you can order from the Christmas menu.

Carluccio’s, nationwide

2 courses for £21.50 and 3 courses for £26.50 from the Christmas specials menu are available from 17th November to run throughout December.

The late, great Antonio Carluccio was known for his passion for cooking simple Italian food that tastes great.

Now dishes inspired by his motto ‘MOF MOF – minimum of fuss, maximum of flavour’ fill 30 Carluccio’s restaurants across the UK and Ireland. Italian food with a festive twist is what to expect here.

This year’s festive lasagne features layers of turkey mince, pork stuffing and brussel sprouts nestled between layers of egg pasta.

Other Christmas specials include duck and chestnut bruschetta, chicken with 24 month aged Parma ham and mushrooms in a rich Vin Santo and dessert of vanilla and rum panna cotta topped with plump rum soaked raisins.

Northcote, Lancashire

Christmas Day Lunch is £180 per person (including canapés and Louis Roederer Rosé Vintage 2010).

The award winning restaurant’s accolades include appearing in numerous good food guides including The Sunday Times’ Food List. It has also held onto its Michelin star for over 20 years, which is no mean feat.

Headed by Executive Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen, she is also frequently seen on TV serving sublime dishes. The Great British Menu Christmas 2020 show was just one highlight, where her three winning dishes were served at the final banquet.

Native lobster with crispy crab cigar, tiny celeriac pillows with winter truffle, traditional bronzed free-range turkey breast and a Christmas Snow Globe with hazelnut chocolate and lime are dishes that you can enjoy from this menu.

Gino D’Acampo, nationwide

Festive menus starting from £28 will be available from 8th November to 9th January 2022.

Gino is one of the most enthusiastic celeb chefs to grace our screens since Rustie Lee (if you’re not old enough to know this name, Google her, she was loud and hilarious).

Travel shows with fellow food celebrities and regular appearances on TV have made Gino D’Acampo a household name and now you can dine at one of his restaurants across the country.

Dishes to expect from Gino’s festive menu include chicken liver pâté with mustard fruits, tomato bruschetta, pan fried sea bass with porcini mushrooms, turkey saltimbocca with Parma ham and a decadent chocolate fondant stuffed with chocolate truffles.
