I’m A Celebrity: Richard Madeley flops in first trial and sends team into the clink

Richard Madeley flopped in his first I’m A Celebrity trial – and landed his team in The Clink on basic rations.

Despite saying before the show that he was keen to tackle lots of challenges, the TV presenter struggled in his opening one and lost in the head-to-head with Frankie Bridge.

As he commented on how hard the Turrets of Terror trial was, Ant joked that “Judy must do all the DIY in their house.”

Viewers saw Frankie and Richard joining all the other celebrities at the trial in the grounds of Gwrych Castle for the first time, the Mirror reports.

The red team – Louise Minchin, Matty Lee, Snoochie Shy and Kadeena Cox – had to choose who they wanted to join them and represent them at the Trial.

They picked Frankie which meant Richard would join the yellow team of David Ginola, Arlene Phillips, Danny Miller and Naughty Boy.

Hanging high in the air between the two turrets were two giant keys., with the winner being the first celebrity to make their way to the top and grab their key.

Before they could do that they were faced with locked doors on the three-level structure and “castle critters” along the way.

Critters began to fall on them as Frankie and Richard both raced to twist the round fobs off the poles to release the keys to unlock the padlocks.

They were neck and neck for most of the game but Frankie just went ahead of Richard and moved up the stairs to the next level ahead of him.

Once on the second level more creatures started to appear as Richard and Frankie had to use a tool to release further fobs to unlock padlocks.

Frankie was focused and determined to get to the roof in the quickest time, completing the third floor and rushing to the roof.

The red team cheered as she used a large pole to get the key – and celebrated as they enjoyed a dinner of rabbit in the main castle.

Meanwhile the yellow team faced up to a life of rice and beans in The Clink.

After she found the bedroom, Arlene said: “I’m about to sleep in probably the single worst bed and place that I have come across in all my 78 years!”

Earlier in the show, broadcaster Louise beat Emmerdale star Danny and radio DJ Snoochie beat music producer Naughty Boy In The Plank challenge, 213 feet in the air above a quarry lake.

Kadeena and Matty then won a Hell Hole challenge to join the red team after they managed to unlock two flare boxes, whilst restricted by the “hell holes” which they have to put their arms through.

Danny was voted to take on the next trial – the castle’s “Dreaded Diner”.
